Jawline surgery, also called jaw sculpting, reshapes the jaw, the chin or both to improve facial balance or to correct how the jaws and teeth work. Options include jaw contouring, chin surgery (genioplasty), corrective jaw (orthognathic) surgery, and non-surgical treatments such as fillers and masseter Botox. The cost depends on the procedure, the surgeon, the hospital stay and follow-up care.
Newface in Chengannur, Kerala offers genioplasty, rhinoplasty and jawline surgery, performed by Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon Dr. Mathew PC and his team.
Orthognathic surgery, often called jaw surgery, can change the shape and position of the jaw and chin. It may define the jawline, reduce bone for a slimmer lower face, or realign the jaws and teeth. Watch a video on orthognathic surgery.

The jaw bone (mandible) can be reduced surgically to permanently change its contour. Swelling usually lasts for some time afterwards, because the reduced area is often where the masseter muscle attaches. Once the swelling settles, the result becomes visible. Jawline reduction may be combined with treatments that relax the masseter muscle or reduce facial volume.
Jawline surgery is done under general anaesthesia and usually takes 2 to 4 hours. The hospital stay ranges from one night to a few days. Follow your surgeon’s instructions on medicines and on not smoking. The cost varies with the surgeon and the extent of surgery, and cosmetic-only surgery is unlikely to be covered by insurance.

Risks include swelling, bleeding, infection, scarring, nerve damage (numbness of the lip or chin) and discomfort. Your surgeon will explain these before surgery.
Facial swelling is common, and you will usually stay in hospital for a few days. Your surgeon will advise on diet, sleeping position and when to return to work. Avoid smoking and strenuous exercise for about two weeks, or as advised. Swelling takes weeks to settle, so the final shape appears gradually. You may need braces to position your teeth with the new jaw shape.
Chin augmentation can balance a prominent nose or add projection to a receding chin. The pre-jowl area and the jaw angle can also be refined. The options are chin or jaw implants, which are fixed to the bone and long-lasting, or injectable fillers, a temporary non-surgical option with little downtime. Your surgeon will help you choose.
Fat under the chin or along the lower jaw can be treated with liposuction or fat-dissolving injections, often together with augmentation. Your surgeon will advise which option suits you.
Jaw surgery, or orthognathic surgery, corrects functional and aesthetic problems such as overbite and facial asymmetry. At Newface it is performed by Dr. Mathew PC.
An overbite can cause speech difficulty, chewing problems and tooth decay. A mandibular osteotomy repositions the lower jaw to align with the upper jaw.
Swelling usually peaks within 48 hours and settles over several weeks. Ice packs and keeping the head elevated can help, as advised by your surgeon.
Braces are often placed before surgery to align the teeth, and orthodontic care continues afterwards to fine-tune the bite.
Nerve injury can cause temporary or, rarely, lasting numbness of the lip or chin. Your surgeon will explain this risk and take care to protect the nerves.
A liquid or pureed diet is advised at first, then soft foods as healing progresses. Avoid hard or chewy foods.
